First Texas Location to Open in Tanglewood Court, the New H-E-B Anchored Shopping Center

MONKEE’S OF HOUSTON, AN UPSCALE LADIES BOUTIQUE, WILL CELEBRATE THEIR GRAND OPENING FEBRUARY 28 WITH TRUNK SHOWS BY DEE KELLER, ANNIE GRIFFIN AND GIGI NY.

FEBRUARY 2015 – A chance meeting, a shared passion for shopping and a love for all things southern was all it took for Houston locals Katie Corts and Katie Scroggins to initiate a year long adventure to owning their own business together. For months they searched for the perfect retail space, selected fabric swatches for the interior décor, and traveled to find all the best fashion for their new store, Monkee’s of Houston.

Monkee’s of Houston, an upscale ladies boutique that features designer shoes, clothing and accessories, will open February 28 at 5885 San Felipe Street. The store is located in Tanglewood Shopping Center, a new development anchored by H-E-B at the corner of San Felipe Street and Fountain View Drive. The shopping center offers an extensive selection of restaurants, healthcare, fitness and personal spa services all in one convenient location.

Co-owners Katie Corts and Katie Scroggins are franchisees of North Carolina-based Monkee’s, which now has 23 independently owned and operated locations in 8 states. Their store is the first Texas location for the brand, but the boutiques have a loyal following throughout the southeast and beyond. Established in 1995, Monkee’s was built on a love of fashion, and grown through a focus on personal customer relationships. The company is currently celebrating 20 years of successfully styling women in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

The ‘Katie’s’, as they are often called, were both pregnant and living in Houston when they met over a year ago at a gala. The chance meeting went from a chat about shopping into a discussion on their shared goal: a career they could be passionate about that would give them the flexibility to be there for their children.

“Monkee’s was the perfect fit. We could join the retail world with a successful franchisor’s support and have control of our own destiny. Let’s face it though – the perk of the job is shopping for a living,” said Katie Scroggins.

Gleaming white cabinetry, signature chandeliers and the lounge-friendly shoe galleries are all staples in a Monkee’s store. However, each location has a personality of it’s own. Monkee’s of Houston has beautiful detailing in the ceiling, bright pops of color in the upholstery and is distinctively “southern, with a twist of sass.”

Katie Corts described the vision of the store as “shopping in your best friend or sister’s closet.”

”That’s part of the Monkee’s motto. You can come in your gym clothes or straight from a meeting at your office and feel at home in our store,” said Katie Scroggins.

Monkee’s of Houston will carry new and exciting designer labels of shoes, clothing and accessories with a wide variety of styles and price ranges. These two stylish owners are excited to feature Hunter Bell, Jay Godfrey, Annie Griffin, Dee Keller, GiGi NY and Julie Vos – just to name a few.

“We are both living and raising our kids in the Memorial area, so we keep in mind that the every day woman wants to be stylish, yet practical. Clothing must be versatile and should make you feel confident,” explained Katie Scroggins. “And since time is always a luxury, we are a woman’s one stop shop for her everyday wear or a glitzy night out on the town.”

After months of anticipation and planning, Monkee’s of Houston will open the doors with a Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, February 28th from 10am to 5:30pm. Festivities will include trunk shows by Annie Griffin, Dee Keller and GiGi New York.
